"On day one, I was allocated the beat from Figheldean Bridge up to the Tank Crossing "C".
I wanted to christen this wonderful rod you made for me on a Netheravon brown.
I located 2 nice fish working in a deep run between two large rafts... On the third drift down a larger fish shot out from under one of the weed rafts and BANG I was in...
After a lengthy battle in which time the rod performed beautifully well as I expected it to do, I finally slid this large fish over the rim of my net...
So ended the first outing of my rod.
Truly wonderful Carl,I love it too bits.
Thank you again for making this fisherman so happy..."

"The photos enclosed show some of the trout Johan Klingberg has caught this year on the rod You built for him. The trout pictured was the second best a very special day. For those who consider split bamboo too fragile for serious fishing this proves something else, I guess.

"Your eminent creation, the JOMS Rod, was inaugurated at river Storån, a place of dignity worthy of a "Classy Lady" like this.

I soon found a trout in a thrilling bend and presented a # 14 Dun. The trout showed interest, and after a trying cast downstream I cast directly to him.
The rod made its debút with a male trout of 23 inches

By request from the two Sawyers the fish was raw spiced to be eaten later in the week. Needless to say I am very pleased by the rod!"

"Wanted to report back on the rod. I spent the weekend and part of the week on a nice river i Luxemburg, one of the few stretches that have what we could consider a nice amount of grayling....
The rod performed wonderfully especially in the wind. I had forgotten how nice it is to cast a split cane after so many years of not using one.

Really nice and congratulations on a great rod."

"...and the parabolic rod you made for me last season has become a great favorite of mine.
I use it for all my grayling fishing and much more. But, now you listen; it introduced itself in a spectacular manner a wonderful day at the River K, a day when I ALMOST caught the largest trout I ever hooked.

The trout lay in a bend and rose immediately to a "Light Ollie" and was hooked. Despite a fierce strike from an over-exited old man the little rod managed to save the fine tippet.
The fight was exceptionally long and hard much due to large chunks of weed attached to the leader, but finally the rod had defeated the completely exhausted fish....and then, what happened ? !... I guess You have already figured why I wrote "ALMOST caught"; close to the net the tippet of 7 X broke and the giant trout slowly slipped away.
I must say an Anderberg – rod might have the utmost qualities, but it certainly has One big fault. It doesn't allow a seasoned veterinary to enjoy the triumph to catch his largest trout ever on a "cob web" tippet!

"Hi Carl, Thank´s for a great rod. This trout I caught on a dry fly on River Varzina.

I also send You a photo on a trout I caught with a caddis pupa.
The rod I used was Your 7´9´´, # 6/7 Parabolic Special dual tip rod."

Hi, Carl!
Last Friday I visited the post office to pick up the new rod. Fortunately it had safely made the long trip.
And what a beautiful rod!
The finish gave the impression the rod was embedded in glass. The windings were very precise and equally superbly finished.
The color of the windings and the wooden reelseat match my G.R. reel perfectly.
The rod´s casting ability is impressive also. I am surprised over what punch this little rod possesses and the turn over is excellent even with long leaders.

".......presented me with one of your fine rods on Saturday evening, and I want you to know that it is the most beautiful rod in my collection. I am thoroughly impressed by your craftsmanship, and I will treasure this fly rod."

"...sooner to thank you for building my wonderful Midsummer and 4th of July rods.

They are lovely, elegant, beautifully designed, finely crafted, and (most important!) marvelous fishing tools.
Both of the rods far exceeded my expectations... I am enclosing some photographs taken last fall on Slough Creek in Yellowstone Park in Wyoming...
I doubt I would have been able to land such large fish on such a fine tippet with a graphite rod..."

"But have time and technology passed by Tonkin cane as a rod-making material, relegating cane rods to wall-hangers or collectibles? Or can fishable, even exquisitely fishable, rods still be crafted from it?...,
and while the Midsummer Rod is clarly designed for more delicate work, it still has a good range.
But the 4th –of – July rod was my favorite, and with a 5-weight line. So equipped, the rod was surprisingly versatile: Close or distant, small fly or big, it will deliver with delicacy or authority, as the situation demands. If you´re looking for a cane rod that not only looks good but performs, consider the Olsson / Anderberg Signature series. "

"You really know bamboo. It is a great rod. Cosmetically very beautiful and it really handles the line like I want.
A great rod... it feels like a really serious trout tool.

"Yesterday, Kenneth Bostrom and the other editor of Sportfiske, Tomas Hagg, was here in Gimdalen.
I showed Kenneth the rods and he was very impressed. He said, "Anderberg is the best rod maker in Sweden... the best." He remembered working with you many years ago..."

"I rigged the rod with a Cortland 444 double-taper 6-weight line for the first series of casts.
My initial impression upon casting was that the rod was snappy, but you still feel some bend into the butt, which is reminiscent of a Payne action.
It seemed like a nice melding of deeper European rod actions that have been influenced by parabolic tapers with the quicker tipped American-style actions.

It was a quite pleasant ride...was one of a few rods I´ve cast where I could see applications for either the 5-weight or 6-weight line without losing the essence of the action that makes it fun to cast.
I honestly could go with either line, depending on conditions"

"Splitting Cane", Ed Engle, Stackpole Press

"La Branche always brought his Leonard rod. I had my "Swedish Leonard Rod".

The mailman had brought it this very day. The hexagon bamboo was flame tempered to a dark honey tone; the color honey gets when the bees find the tiny mauve heather bloom in August.
The wrappings were dark red, someone should have called it burgundy. The varnish was crystal clear and as smooth as was it polished with olive oil.

The rod makers name was written in an elegant style – Carl Anderberg.
The nickel silver ferrules were short. The reel seat American Rosewood. Resilient and powerful, the pleasant weight and toughness of the bamboo made the action rather fast than slow.
It was 7 feet 9 inches for a # 4 line. The finest fly rod anyone can make. La Branche would have suggested an exchange. I would have declined ..."

"Once again I have reason to express my joy to own a rod made by you.
Often I bring out the rod just to sense its beauty. Can craftsmanship be more elegant? I really doubt it. Naturally, it was the only rod I used during our fishing trip.

The rest of the summer I have made a habit of sitting in the garden reading a good book, sipping my coffee with the rod tackled leaning against an apple tree; now and then I make a cast just to feel its rhythm ..."

Dear Carl!
I have used your 7 1/2 footer for two seasons and I have got to know it quite well by now.
My first impression was the outstanding finish and the beautiful flamed tone it has.

But the performance and the durable feel of the rod is what comes to mind when I´m on the water, using it as the fishing tool it was meant to be.
Casting ability and the way it handles fish is about all I can ask for.
You are a true craftsman.

The best of wishes
